Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, commonly known as AB de Villiers, was born on February 17, 1984, in Warmbad (now Bela-Bela), Limpopo, South Africa. Growing up in a sports-oriented family, AB was the youngest of three brothers. His father, Dr. Abraham P. de Villiers, was a doctor, and his mother, Millie de Villiers, was a homemaker. AB’s family was deeply involved in sports; his father was a keen rugby player, and his siblings were equally passionate about sports. This environment naturally fostered AB’s athletic inclinations.
AB attended Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) in Pretoria, a renowned institution known for producing top sports talents. During his school days, AB excelled in various sports, including cricket, rugby, tennis, and golf. His versatility and extraordinary talent in cricket became particularly prominent. Despite his proficiency in multiple sports, cricket was his true calling, and he focused on it as his career progressed.
